Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
1. Are Team garments waterproof?
Yes. All Team garments feature waterproof fabrication and full seam sealing to
prevent moisture penetrating stitching holes. Waterproof zips, stormflaps,
adjustable hems, hoods and storm cuffs all play a role in making Team garments
waterproof and keeping you protected from heavy rain.
2. What is the difference between waterproof and shower proof?
To be truly “waterproof” the garment must be made from a waterproof fabric and
have sealed or taped seams so that the rain does not leak in through the small
perforations made by sewing needles when the garment is being made. The garment
must also have a protected zip eg. Stormflap or a waterproof zip so that rain
cannot get inside the garment.
“Water resistant” fabrics or garments usually means that a coating has been
applied to the fabric to help repel water. Water resistant fabrics works for
light rains or drizzles but will not cope well with a heavy downpour. If you are
looking for protection from rain & wind you must look for garments made from
waterproof fabrics such as the “Team” range, not water resistant fabrics.
3. What are Waterproof/Breathable Fabrics?
Waterproof/Breathable fabrics are coated with a microporus coating that have the
ability to breath as the fabric has pores. The size of the pores are small
enough to prevent water droplets (rain) from penetrating the face fabric, but
large enough to allow water vapour (sweat) to escape and body heat making these
fabrics waterproof and breathable. Check out the Team breathable range under our
New Era Technicals Breathable Section.
4. What is Wicking fabrics?
Wicking fabrics draw moisture away from the body. They are made of high-tech
polyester which unlike cotton absorbs very little water. Wicking polyester has a
special cross section and a large surface area which picks up moisture and
carried it away from your body, spreading it out to evaporate easily on the
outside of the fabric so you keep cooler and dryer. Check out Team’s new Summer
Range of clothing which has this special feature.
5. How Do I Care for my Team Waterproof Team Active & Waterproof range?
Please following the care label on the garment. It is best to hand wash your
garment in warm soapy water with mild detergent and hang out to dry in shade.
Always dry before storing. Durable water repellent (DWR) coatings become clogged
with dirt or salt from body sweat. Regular cleaning is important to maintain the
performance of the DWR treatment.
6. Is the waterproofness guaranteed for Team Wetwear Range?
Team Australia guarantee that our wetwear garments will be waterproof for 3
years if the correct care instructions on the care label of the garment are
followed, the garment is kept in good condition and used for the intended
purpose of the garment. Team Australia specialise in wetwear and have been
